The earliest Fender Precision Basses were created so that bass players wouldn't have to haul their large double basses to gigs, as well as allowing guitar players to play the bass more easily. These early P Basses are known for their slab (non-contoured) bodies, big fat necks, woody sounding "thump", and classic good looks.
On occasion, I have the chance to play and take photos of some of these truly great instruments, and out of respect for what many people (myself included) believe to be the finest electric guitars and basses ever made, I created this site to share them. You will also find pictures that have been found on the web as well as donated by generous (and lucky !) owners of these slab bodied beauties !
